2018 Scout Popcorn Sale
Why does Pack 325 Fundraise? To help pay for Scouting for our Boys and Girls! Pack 325 is completely self funded. Our fundraising effort helps to make Scouting a great experience for our sons, daughters, siblings and parents. Here is a just a small sampling of the activities supported by your fund raising efforts and participation:
Did you Know! In 2017 Pack 325 had 4 out of the top 100 sellers in the entire Inland Northwest Council! This is truly impressive when you consider the Inland Northwest Council spans from Lewiston all the way to Spokane. Scouting Scouting does not mean everything is handed to our boys and girls. We expect them to earn their way: spending money, movie with friends, or that cool toy at the store. Scouting still believes in and stands for the core value of earning! But we do want to teach our boys and girls how to work effectively.
We want our boys and girls to sell something everyone loves. Something that comes in all shapes and sizes. Something no one can refuse.
SCOUTING!
You thought I was going to say popcorn.
It's true we sell popcorn, we sell good popcorn, we sell Delicious Popcorn! But that's the snack the customer gets with their purchase of scouting. On average, 70% of the funds from this fundraiser go to Scouting, and our local pack gets 34% or roughly half of that 70%.
So when our Scouts sell the "Cheese Lover's Collection Tin," they have sold $24.50 of Scouting and $10.50 of popcorn.
What about for my Scout?
We want our Scouts to learn how to sell. We want them to have to step out their comfort zone and talk with adults. We want to help them build there self esteem. We want them to develop a good work ethic and so much more. We want them to feel a sense of accomplishment.
Scouts want the prizes! And we have lot's of prizes to reward them for their hard work.

But seriously, Popcorn selling teaches Scouts the value & process of setting and working toward goals, it gives Scouts a strong sense of confidence through accomplishment, recognition, communication and leadership skills.
What about for my Family?
Scouting is not FREE, but we can significantly reduce the costs for your family.
If your scout meets these sales goals, they can earn their experiences and you don't have to worry about those costs.
Suggested Sales Goals To completely earn your way this year you should strive to sell at least $1,000 of popcorn. I know, that sounds like a ton of popcorn but let me break it down for you. You can expect to average around $100 per hour in sales. That's 10 hours of work to earn your entire year of Scouting!
Remember you receive a refund for your BSA dues, you get to go to Day Camp, you and your parent get to go to Overnight Camp, and you get to throw a pie in the face of a leader of your choice. That's a $355 dollar value. Not to mention the pie in the face is priceless!
When you look at it closer your selling $100 / hour. $30 goes to Trails End, $36 goes to the Inland Northwest Council and $34 goes to Pack 325. When you think about it your Scout is making $34 per hour at age 5 - 12. I wish I had a job that paid that well when I was kid.
All in all we spend less time fund raising and more time Scouting! Show and Sells This year we will be managing our Show and Sell participation using SignUpGenius. Invitations will be sent out by email in advance of the scheduled Show and Sell. Scouts should participate in as many Show and Sells as possible. Order Forms It is very important that at the end of each week on Sunday you scan or take a picture of your order form and send it into the Popcorn Kernel. This makes sure your Scout is eligible for the weekly prizes. Also equally important is it allows the Popcorn Kernel to gauge how we are doing selling popcorn and to make any necessary adjustments to prevent underselling charges or running out of product to quick during the sell. Just because your Scout may not be in the running for a week prize we still need you to turn in your results. We also need you to turn in your collected cash and checks weekly. This is also another indicator of how the sale is doing. It helps the Popcorn Kernel figure out how much product has been sold and funds collected for. This allows us to have the necessary money in the bank to pay the Inland Northwest Council back for the money they fronted for our Show and Sell order. Selling Methods There are all sorts of ways to sell Scouting! We strongly encourage to checkout popcorn and have it on hand to give to the customer right away and collect their funds right away. We strongly discourage taking an order without collecting funds. Here are a couple of reasons why. 1) If the Pack orders the popcorn for you to satisfy the customer order and the customer changes their mind you will be on the hook to purchase the popcorn. 2) It saves time. You don't have to return to the customer to deliver their popcorn making it a much more efficient use of your valuable time. The Sales Pitch It's hard to resist a Cub Scout especially one that has a great sales pitch. In order to have a great sales pitch your Scout needs to practice, practice, practice. Here is a sales pitch that is hard to resist. It's on your order form in case you forget. "Hello, my name is _____ and I'm with Pack 325. I am earning my way to ______ and supporting our camp programs. I have many DELICIOUS flavors of popcorn and ___________ is my favorite. Can I can count on your support to help fund my adventures?" (Hand pen and order form to customer) Some ideas on the fill in the blanks. You might be earning your way to Day Camp, Camp Grizzly, Overnight Camp, Camp Cowles, or a Campout, or something else important to you. You should have a favorite that you can tell the customer. Your favorite might be the Chocolatey Caramel Crunch or the Salted Caramel, etc. Research has shown that customers are more likely to purchase the popcorn that you are holding in your hand. We strongly encourage that you hold onto the $25 dollar Popcorn Tin when taking with your customers. You will be surprised how many more $25 and up tins you sell if you take this road tested advise. You can reach you sells goals much quicker if you can sell a $25, $30, or $35 dollar tin than if you try to lead with the $10 items. Online Sales For online sales you can start selling today! It's easy to sign up, go to trails-end.com and click the Register button. Next click the Parent, On Behalf of My Scout button. Our Pack is 5325.
